JCCET Passover and Easter Interfaith Seder 2013 Story and Photos

by admin

We want to thank all those that assisted in putting on our wonderful 2013 Interfaith Seder to Free the Wounded Earth and Face the Pharaohs of Today, yes… To “Occupy the dream’’.

For Passover and Easter this past March 2013, in the United States, Jewish and Christian peace leaders joined together, preparing, from the words of Martin Luther King Jr., to “Occupy The Dream”.

In Sherbrooke, this past Passover and Easter, 45 community members joined in our inclusive interfaith Seder, with Jews, Roman Catholics, Protestants, Baha’i, Muslims and Athiests coming together to “Occupied the Dream.” An “action against the modern Pharaohs and their modern Climate Plagues, and promoting the actions for Ten Healings of the Earth,” prepared by Rabbi Arthur Waskow’s Shalom Centre.

An “Occupy” Passover Seder and Easter Seder for the 99%.

Isaac Romano of the Jewish Community Centre of the Eastern Townships wishes to thank his Passover co-religionist leaders and partners in peace, the Reverend Carole Martignacco of the Unitarian Universalists of the Eastern Townships (UU Estrie), Father Reegan Soosai of Claretian Missionaries Congregation and again the staff at Residence Mariannhill Missionaries for their help and use of their wonderful hall and kitchen.  The assistance of all our wonderful volunteers, with special appreciations to Rollande Petit, Irene Brouilliette and Lewis Downey.  And to all our volunteers that brought and prepared our wonderful dinner and ritual dishes for our event.

We were honored to have guests from Montreal’s Sri Lankan Tamil Catholic community, Fr. Luke and his Brother in Roman Catholic Faith and Tamil leadership from Toronto.  We were honored to have guests from the Sherbrooke, Colombian community.  Thanks to Fr. Reegan Soosai for arranging for our Sri Lankan and Colombian guests to join with us. And providing teachings for our Passover, related to the experience of Tamil oppression.

Thank you Kaven for these wonderful photos from our Seder.

Jewish Community Centre of the Eastern Townships’ Spring 2013, Montreal, Sherbrooke, Ottawa Concert Series, Yom Hashoah (Holocaust Remembrance) Interfaith Event

Jewish Community Centre of the Eastern Townships’ Spring 2013, Montreal, Sherbrooke, Ottawa Concert Series, Yom Hashoah (Holocaust Remembrance) Interfaith Event was a musical feast and sharing, with deep meaning, thanks to our wonderful musicians, Suzanne and William Goldenberg, The Goldenberg Duo.  We Share our deep gratitude to the Goldenberg Duo for sharing their personal love and beauty of life and music.

We were deeply moved and affected by the performances, in Sherbrooke (Plymouth-Trinity United Church), Montreal (St. James United Church, and Ottawa (Dominion-Chalmers United Church).

Special thanks to the congregation and the community that came together at Ottawa’s wonderful Dominion Chalmers United Church for a concert that surely had great meaning. And to the wonderful contribution of Reverend James Murray and his staff, and to First Unitarian Congregation of Ottawa minister, Reverend John Marsh and Rabbi Anna Maranta of the The Glebe Minyan.

A special thanks to B’nai Or Montreal Rabbi Sherril Gilbert for her wonderful reading and to our hosts in each city. Deep thanks goes out to jazz singer and host, Jennifer Lapointe for her singing and wonderful hosting.  And to Marilyn Brerzan-Montblanch for hosting in Montreal.

At each event the JCCET unveiled the premier of a remarkable painting by Jewish artist and calligrapher, Seattle’s Rainer Waldman-Atkins.  It was announced that the JCCET is gifting this substantial art piece for long term loan to local United Churches, across Canada. This care and bridge-building gift is beautiful, with great artistry, calligraphy and a poem by I.L Peretz, world-renown, Yiddish poet.

Here are photos for your enjoyment of the gifted painting we unveiled, “Believe Not,” and photos at the performances with the Goldberg Duo and Jazz singer, Jennifer Lapointe.

* Join us for our 3rd Annual Autumn Interfaith New Years and Sukkoth event.  This year JCCET peace and inclusive Rabbi Sherril Gilbert (of B’nai Or Montreal congregation), will join  with UU Estrie North Hatley’s Reverend Carole Martignacco to lead a wonderful Sunday, September 22, 2013 Sukkoth service (harvest celebration) and potluck.  Mark your calendar for this beautiful event.
